In 2020, the Victorian State Government, through the Department of Education and Training, has introduced a new model for Auslan interpreting in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

Interpreter booking services for Vocational Education and Training are now provided by Auslan Connections

  • Bookings made with Auslan Connections are subsidised by the State Government, ensuring interpreters are paid the same rate for educational interpreting as they are paid for work in other sectors

  • Auslan Connections will manage bookings and employ interpreters directly, reducing the HR and administration costs for education providers

  • Auslan Connections booking staff will be able to provide on-the-spot advice, referral to other services and resources for VET Staff

 

deafConnectEd hasn’t stopped working for you!

We will continue to provide advice and support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students about transition from secondary school to higher education, education access, self-advocacy and career planning. We will continue to provide mentoring and peer support for DHH students.

  • We will continue to support Auslan interpreters working in VET through resources and our Interpreter Mentoring Program.

  • Deafness awareness training for VET teachers and staff will still be offered free of charge.

  • deafConnectEd will provide resources, information and support for Disability Liaison Officers working in VET. We are here to answer questions and support access for DHH students.
