ICABSnterpreting in educational settings is incredibly rewarding but also challenging and that’s why we are offering 4 recently qualified interpreters the chance to get some individualised professional development and the support of an experience mentor.

The Central Auslan Booking Service (CABS) mentor and coaching program will be tailored to meet the needs of participants and will include:

  • an initial interpreting performance analysis by Julie Judd, an experienced interpreter and interpreter trainer.
  • Individual feedback as well as a suggested personal development plan for the year
  • partnering with a trained mentor for regular discussion and potential tandem interpreting
  • three half-day workshops focused on priority skill development areas
  • maintenance of an individual learning journal
  • a follow up interpreting performance analysis with individual feedback

Here’s what previous participants have said about the program:

“Go for it! It’s challenging, fun, supportive . . . I feel my skills as a first year interpreter have improved immensely over the last 10 months. Support from my mentor has been invaluable.” Mentee, 2014

“The individual skills analysis was fantastic. [It] gave a great snapshot of the skills I have as well as skills I could work on, and it was given in a very safe environment.” Mentee, 2015

“I really look forward to meeting with my mentor. It’s been the highlight of the program. We started meeting fortnightly and now meet every 3-4 weeks but she is always available.” Mentee, 2015

The program will run from February to November 2017.
