]]> In 2022, deafConnectEd supported Melbourne Polytechnic with promotion and enrolment for another Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) specifically for Auslan users, with the aim of growing our Auslan teaching workforce. The course started in July with 13 learners who are now more than halfway through their studies. The course is delivered entirely online by a team of hearing and Deaf instructors. Plans are already being made for another course to start in July 2023. If you are interested in knowing more about this course, let us know and we can add you to your mailing list for the course.

In 2017, deafConnectEd was successful in an application to the Victorian Government for funding to support recent migrants to Australia who are Deaf. This funding allowed us to deliver a course tailored specifically to the needs of this group, including Auslan and English skill development to support learners in accessing services and taking up opportunities for further study and employment.

We were grateful to the Victorian Government Department of Premier and Cabinet (Capacity Building and Participation Program) for the funding that made this innovative activity possible and to our partnership with Expression Australia.

In 2023, we continue to work with Expression Australia with the aim of creating a sustainable pathway for Deaf migrants.

]]> A core goal of deafConnectEd is raising awareness about learners who are Deaf, DeafBlind or hard of hearing in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. We have traditionally done this through on site Deafness Awareness Training, but since 2017, we have also delivered sessions through the VET Development Centre, enabling us to reaching hundreds of participants in a single session. Feedback on these sessions has been incredibly positive. In May 2021, 99% of respondents rating the session as good or excellent. In 2023, this partnership has also extended to include delivery of our online short courses on notetaking. We look forward to exploring other opportunities in the coming months.
