Late in 2015, we reported on our involvement as a partner in an Australia Research Council grant looking into how sign languages are learned by adults.

The aim of this three-year project is to improve our understanding of how to teach signed languages to adults as second or additional languages. This is a relatively new area of research, despite the many sign language programs all over the world.

As the many activities under this project have developed, a number of outcomes are starting to become available, including a forthcoming article with recommended learning strategies for students. Below is an interview looking into some of these findings:

A pre-print article can also be found at the Monash University page relating to this project: http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/teaching-sign-languages/

Many other outcomes are beginning to become available from this project, including resources which are being piloted with the Auslan program at Melbourne Polytechnic. These resources will eventually be hosted for use across Australia.
