Hello to Deaf and Hard of Hearing community!

We, deafConnectEd and Vicdeaf, are excited to announce that we are hosting a mentor workshop over two Fridays – 12th and 19th August!

Time and where: at Vicdeaf from 6pm to 9pm. The workshop will be in Auslan.  The workshop is FREE as well!

The workshop will help you to build skills related to being a mentor, include communication skills, preparation skills and networking.

The program leaders:

Tamara-Background

Tamara Pearce currently works at Vicdeaf as the Manager, Planning & Service Design; she currently looks after Vicdeaf services in Tasmania and the Preston Hub in the northern region. Part of her role is creating opportunities for staff to learn from each other. Tamara has a Masters degree in Education; and has worked as an interpreter,  interpreter trainer and mentor for many years. She has been involved in the ASLIA Vic mentor program since its inception.  She believes that mentoring and good communication are vital to developing successful relationships and learning about ourselves.

 

Ramas McRae is a Project Officer. Ramas’ responsibilities at deafconnectED include supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in Vocational Education and Training. Ramas has also developed and maintained website pages for these students at www.deafconnected.com.au. He is facilitating the Victorian Deaf and Hard of Hearing students Network Group. Ramas is currently creating a special program for year 13 students, as well as a literacy program for Deaf Adults and a living skills program for Deaf/Hard of Hearing migrants.
