Communicating by email may be something that you do with all of your students and for the most part, this will be no different with your deaf student.  A couple of things to be mindful of are:

  • depending on your deaf student, there may be English literacy challenges [see more] (a tip here is to “match” your deaf student’s writing level, using similar words and English structures; if in doubt, keep it simple and to the point)
  • for your deaf student, communicating by email is actually a more crucial link to you than for other students who can often more readily have brief interactions with you during out-of-class time
  • email is a important link for you to share with your deaf student soft copies of your PowerPoint presentations and other notes (information about why this is important is available on this site)
